Lagoon Pool

Summer House Cairns is home to the biggest and best backpacker pool in Australia. Surrounded by luscious gardens and hammocks, as well as countless sun lounges, many a day can be spent relaxing and topping up your tan. Poolside drinks and food service is also available so you don’t even have to leave your sun lounge.

Zen Garden

Featuring a number of comfy hammocks on expansive lawns and flanked by tropical palm trees and luscious vegetation, our Zen Garden offers a peaceful retreat to relax and read a book. Soak up the sun on the lawn, or relax under the shade of a palm tree as you drift off and let the peacefulness disconnect you from the world for a brief moment.

Olympic Beach Volleyball Court

If sport is your thing, then our beach volleyball court is sure to keep you entertained during your stay. With imported sand and new netting, this court plays host to daily volleyball competitions for the guests. It’s a great way to stay fit while you’re on holidays and keep those competitive juices flowing.

The Serpent Bar and Restaurant

We have our very own newly-renovated bar which embodies the classic Aussie pub and beer garden; recharge with a beer and indulge in a mouth-watering seasonal food menu with everyone’s pub favourites. The bar flows out to a sun-drenched beer garden, and at evening daily evening events are hosted to have some fun and meet new friends.

The restaurant serves a full menu of pub classics with huge discounts available for all guests.

Bedrooms

Summer House Cairns offers a range of modern rooms to suit your budget. You can choose from dorm rooms – including female only – or private rooms if you are looking for a little more privacy.

Shared Dorms:

Summer House Cairns offers clean and comfortable shared dorms of all sizes, ranging from smaller 4 bed dorms, up to our larger 8 bed dorms for those on a tighter budget. All of our shared dorms are spacious and clean with large lockable storage lockers for every guest! You can access the free and lightning-fast unlimited WiFi from every room. Unlike many other hostels, our housekeeping team will also prepare the beds with fresh linen in preparation for your arrival.

Private rooms

If you wish for more privacy during your stay, we have private rooms available at Summer House Cairns. Our private rooms consist of either a “single over double” (single bed over a double bed) or, for even more privacy, a double bed with private ensuite.

Bathrooms

We have an abundance of bathroom and shower facilities available at Summer House Cairns. On each level there is a large men’s and women’s bathroom block which is modern, spacious and clean. There is an abundance of showers and bathrooms per guest meaning you’ll never have to wait around to use a bathroom, even during peak times.  Our state-of-the-art commercial grade hot water system ensures that hot water is always available around the clock and our cleaning team works hard to ensure the facilities are cleaned multiple times a day and ready for use at all times.

TV Rooms

Summer House Cairns boasts not one but two TV areas. The first is a comfortable enclosed indoor TV room, ideal for watching Netflix and is also connected to gaming consoles including Xbox and Playstation. We have constructed an awesome two-tiered grandstand with plenty of comfy cushions for you to enjoy our huge 65 inch flat-screen smart TV. The second TV room is an open outdoor space, not far from the pool area where you can relax on a comfy daybed or pull up a beanbag to enjoy an open air TV experience.

We also have a huge selection of books to use while at the hostel.

Laundry

The Guest Laundry is open 24/7 and is located on the ground floor next to the guest kitchen. The commercial-grade machines cost $5 per wash, $5 per dry and you can buy washing powder and softener from the expending machine.

Kitchen and Dining

Summer House Cairns offers a modern open-plan kitchen area. This includes numerous stove cook tops, microwaves, toasters and kettles. We provide free breakfast including cereal, toast and spreads every morning, plus we provide free tea and coffee all day. On Sundays we provide free pancakes between 10 am – 12 pm. Once your meal is ready, there are countless outdoor and indoor dining areas to choose from. This includes large shaded areas by the pool, and many seating options in and around the beer garden and bar. The kitchen also contains a communal dry food storage area as well as large commercial fridges to keep your food cool and fresh throughout your stay!

We have commercial grade high speed WiFi infrastructure installed throughout the entire hostel to ensure that no area is missed. Plus, unlike most other Cairns hostels, it’s 100% free with no download restrictions! How good is that! Summer House Reception

The Reception Desk is open 24/7. Our friendly and experienced reception team have a wealth of knowledge so make sure you put it to good use! Plus, keep an eye on the events board next to reception to see what events the hostel has organised for the week!

Next to reception you’ll find our free bike parking as well as our events board with information on what’s on during your stay as well as local events and happenings such as concerts, markets and parties in and around Cairns.

Travel Desk

We have our very own in-house travel desk run by our friends at Summer Travel. From here you can organise the rest of your east coast trip, book daily activities or plan your great barrier reef adventure. Special discounts are available for guests be sure to take advantage of these great deals.

Additional facilities

If you feel like relaxing after you’ve finished swimming in our magnificent lagoon-style pool, you can lounge around in one of our hammocks, head over to the bar to try our very own Summer Lager or Summer Cider, join in a game of beer pong or volleyball with fellow guests or order one of our chef’s specialties at the Serpent Bar.

Security

Above all else, the security of our guests is our highest priority. CCTV is in operation throughout the building and we follow a strict ‘Guests Only’ policy within the hostel. We use a sophisticated RFID security card system on all doors.
