Bedrooms
We have dorm rooms with either 4, 6 or 8 beds each with private ensuite. We also have private hotel quality rooms. Each bed has an individual double power socket plus every guest has a huge lockable storage locker to safely secure all their belongings (make sure you bring a padlock or we have them available for purchase from reception). We pride ourselves on having the best linen and most comfortable beds in the business. Plus unlike other hostels, we make your bed for you prior to arrival – how good’s that!

TV Room
Summer House has a comfy TV and games room located on the second floor. Our huge flat-screen TV has over 100 cable TV channels, plus we have a huge selection of free DVDs.
We also have a huge selection of books to use while at the hostel which is located in the TV room.
Laundry
The Guest Laundry is located on the second floor and is open 24/7. The commercial-grade machines cost $4 per wash, $4 per dry and we have washing powder available at Reception for 50c.
Kitchen and Food Storage Area
Summer House has a large, spacious kitchen located on the second floor. The kitchen includes stove cook tops, microwaves, toasters and kettles. On Sundays we provide free pancakes between 9 am – 11 am. Within the kitchen are individual food storage boxes. In addition you’ll also find commercial-grade fridges to keep your food cool and fresh!
The Barkly Public Bar
We are lucky to have one of Melbourne’s most popular pubs located on our ground level. As a guest of Summer House Backpackers, you are entitled to daily drink and food specials, just show your room key, it’s that simple! There is also free pool available to guests as well as fun nightly events.
Next Level Rooftop Bar
On the weekends, there’s no better way to enjoy Melbourne than having a beer on the world famous rooftop bar. The bar has stunning views of St Kilda and is continually considered one of the best rooftop bars in Australia. Hostel BBQs are commonly held on the rooftop so don’t forget to check the events board to see what’s on!
Free Unlimited WiFi
We have high speed WiFi infrastructure installed throughout the entire hostel to ensure that no area of the hostel is missed. Plus, unlike most other Sydney hostels, it’s 100% free with no download restrictions! How good is that! We have 10 access points throughout the hostel so you so you can connect and stay in touch with friends and family easily!

Reception and Travel Desk
Our friendly and experienced reception team have a wealth of knowledge so make sure you put it to good use! We can tell you the must-see places in St Kilda and Melbourne, as well as recommend some of the hidden gems you won’t find in your guide book.
As a guest of Summerhouse you will be entitled to special travel discounts and free job assistance from Cheap Az Travel located next door to the hostel. Plus, keep an eye on the events board next to reception reception to see what events the hostel has organised for the week!
Security
Above all else, the security of our guests is our highest priority. CCTV is in operation throughout the building and we follow a strict ‘Guests Only’ policy within the hostel. We use a sophisticated key card system on all doors.
